Types of Steroids
Steroids are of three types namely anabolic, androgenic and cortico steroids. Anabolic steroids are derived from testosterone. Several trials were made to separate anabolic effects of the hormones from their androgenic effects but could get little success. Anabolic steroids are helpful for protein building when used for increasing muscle mass and strength. These are available in the form of supplements.

Misuse or overuse of steroids is hazardous and can cause serious side effects. It affects hormonal system that causes infertility, breast enlargement, shrinking of the testicles in men and excessive hair growth, enlargement of clitoris in females. The other side effects include Short stature, muscle break, Heart attacks, enlargement of heart, cancer, Acne and cysts, Hepatitis, Infection, Mania, and Delusions.
It is highly suggested to use these steroids only after doctor’s prescription, as misuse or overuse of these is dangerous. Their use is beneficial only when benefits outweigh the risks. Short term and low dose is preferred for safe results.
